Pardee announces EMS building demolition, campus improvements

Press release from Pardee UNC Health Care:

Pardee UNC Health Care announced today the continuation of its infrastructure improvement plan with expected demolition on April 13th of an existing EMS building on the Pardee Hospital main campus nearby the hospital entrance.

No expected traffic closures or redirects around the construction zone are imminent and current traffic patterns established during the orthopedic wing roof replacement will remain in place. Patients and visitors are encouraged to follow all traffic flow patterns and utilize free valet parking service when arriving at the hospital.

Demolition of the older EMS building on Justice Street, adjacent to the parking garage and left of Pardee Hospital’s main entrance, is expected to be completed within two weeks. Once the demolition team clears the older structure, contractors will begin phased construction in May of the new and enhanced hospital entrance with one-way ingress. Planners expect to announce completion of the new hospital entrance in early November 2021. The enhanced entrance project includes creation of 111 additional parking spaces to accommodate the growing community as well as greenspace for campus beautification.

“Any construction project requires great patience, and we appreciate our visitors, patients, staff and employees for theirs,” said Kris Peters, vice-president, Support Services and System Integration, Pardee UNC Health Care. “As the community hospital for Henderson County, it is important that we maintain the high level of quality that our patients have come to expect. With each phase of our infrastructure improvement plan, we are making an investment today that will carry us into the future, ultimately enhancing and improving the care we deliver to our community.”

As part of its larger infrastructure plan, Pardee recently completed a new Emergency Department ramp and is currently working on a roof replacement over the orthopedic wing. The roof replacements will continue over the course of the next few years.
