Park Ridge Health awarded for patient safety success

Press release from Park Ridge Health:

Hendersonville, N.C. (June 30, 2014) – Park Ridge Health is one of 10 hospitals in the country to receive the Premier Partnership for Patients Award for success in patient safety. Recipients of this award were successful in reaching goals in at least seven of 10 areas measured that relate to preventing hospital-acquired conditions and readmissions from 2012 to 2013. More than 400 hospitals nationwide were assessed for this recognition.

“Through commitment, transparency and engagement, we are working to create a culture of safe, reliable and coordinated care at Park Ridge Health,” said Craig Lindsey, Vice President of Clinical Services at Park Ridge Health. “I’m proud of the many teams who are collaborating to provide a leading patient experience for our community.”

Park Ridge Health has partnered with the health care improvement company Premier, Inc., to reduce preventable hospital-acquired conditions and readmissions as part of the federal Partnership for Patients initiative.

“Participation in this initiative reinforces Park Ridge Health’s commitment to quality,” Lindsey said. “We’re pleased to collaborate with other leading hospitals and health systems around the country to move our industry in the direction of safer and more cost-effective patient care.”

Hospitals and health systems participating in the Partnership for Patients initiative through Premier collectively avoided more than 35,600 readmissions from 2012 to 2013. Incidence of hospital-acquired conditions – including central line-associated bloodstream infections, pressure ulcers and falls – have also been reduced significantly among hospitals and health systems participating in the initiative.

Park Ridge Health has also received recognition as a finalist in the QUEST Award for High-value Healthcare. Only 37 hospitals in the country received this recognition, which acknowledges top performers in delivering high-quality, cost-effective health care. Areas measured for this award included harm, mortality, readmissions, costs, patient experience and evidence-based care. QUEST is a performance improvement collaborative of approximately 350 hospitals working to make health care safer, more efficient and consistently effective. In five and a half years, QUEST hospitals have saved more than 136,000 lives and $11.6 billion.
