Asheville, N.C. – Parsec Financial, a fee-only wealth management firm, recently awarded a Parsec Prize to four nonprofits in Tryon, N.C. The following organizations will share the $10,000 prize: The Tryon Historical Museum, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Polk County, Tryon Downtown Development Association and The Lanier Library.

With the purchase of Tryon based Millard & Company in April 2016, Parsec, demonstrating one of its core values, immediately gave back to the community. “Parsec is honored to support these four very deserving nonprofits serving Tryon and the surrounding county. With our contributions, local nonprofits can continue fulfilling their mission,” says Michael Baughman, Parsec’s Senior Financial Advisor. “We’re honored to do our small part to improve and enhance the lives of those living and working in Polk County.”

  • Tryon Historical Museum – The museum’s mission is to collect, preserve and showcase the artifacts and materials of Tryon, to recognize how history affects the current and future generations of the area and to operate a place to eternalize the town’s history, people and way of life. www.tryonhistoricalmuseum.org
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Polk County – Volunteers and board network provide strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change the lives of children facing adversity for the better, forever. www.bbbswnc.org/big-brothers-big-sisters-polk
  • Tryon Downtown Development Association (TDDA) – Consists of a local group of committed volunteers that is helping downtown Tryon grow while preserving its historical buildings and downtown core. www.downtowntryon.org
  • Lanier Library – Established in 1890, the Lanier Library provides the Tryon community with intellectual and cultural stimulation.  The library receives no public monies and is supported entirely through member’s dues, gifts, donations and endowments. www.lanierlib.org

This year, ten organizations will share a total of $100,000. “The Parsec Prize helps local nonprofits make a real impact on their communities. Their work is so important and we are honored to be part of their legacy. We are always impressed by these organizations that strive to improve the lives of others and the community,” says Rick Manske, CEO, Parsec Financial.

Parsec Financial founded the Parsec Prize in 2005. Since that time, Parsec has given over $850,000 in prizes to 61 local nonprofits serving Western North Carolina and Charlotte. The Parsec Prize represents approximately one half of Parsec’s annual giving. Giving back to the community is a fundamental value at Parsec and they have long maintained a significant commitment to charitable giving.
