Phantom of the Opera Masquerade theme anchors Asheville High and SILSA’s ‘homegrown prom’

Press release from Asheville High School:

The AHS/SILSA Prom showcases the plethora of opportunities available at Asheville High School in addition to our student talent. Prom invitation and tickets were designed by SILSA student Evan Davison and printed in our Graphics Department, our Culinary Department is catering the dance, and decorations were created by Art, Cabinet-making, Engineering, and Metals classes. Asheville High School Senior Eakin Howard, who recently received six Jostens 2017 Photography contest awards, is our official photographer.

Enthusiasm is building on campus. The Media Center is hosting a “Makers Space” for students who want to make their own mask. Our Journalism class has published a special edition campus newspaper full of student-written, prom-themed articles. Students are especially excited about a student-designed Snapchat geofilter for the event.

We made a special effort to support non-profit organizations, like Habitat for Humanity, when buying decorations and local businesses for flowers and other decorations.

Many thanks to the community supporters who bought tickets through an online donation portal on our school web page. Because of your generosity, our school was able to give 18 tickets to students who are experiencing financial hardship.

The Asheville High School Prom Committee is hosting an open house to the public Saturday from 5:30-6 pm.  Please park in the student parking lot off Victoria Road if you are attending the open house.
