Press release from the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County:
Asheville, NC – August 20, 2017 – For over 40 years, The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County has been focused on maintaining and enhancing the special charm that Asheville holds. On Saturday September 23, PSABC will be celebrating our successes and looking towards the future with our second annual Time Traveling Gala ~ A Dance Through Time.
In recent years, PSABC’s Easement Program has permanently protected Asheville Supply & Foundry Buildings, Mast General Store, The Pioneer Building, Ravenscroft School and B & B Motor Company. The Patton Parker House was protected and fully rehabilitated for an adaptive reuse as an office and $10,000 of contributions raised at the 2016 gala were devoted to the temporary stabilization of the Thomas Wolfe Cabin while negotiations continue in pursuit of a full restoration by the City. This is just some of what PSABC does on a daily basis to preserve Asheville and make it a place that visitors and residents alike can enjoy for generations to come.
This year, the Gala will transport guests on historic trolleys through the city and through time with culinary delights at each stop created by Chef Michael, Biltmore wines and signature cocktails by Sovereign Remedies. The journey begins at the YMI Cultural Center to the sounds of Mick Glasgow and the House Hoppers. Next, guests will be whisked away to the beautiful Belle Epoch era at Zealandia Castle with music by Lew Gelfond’s String Trio and to the elegant Arts & Crafts era at Sondley Estate with music by Slim Chance and the Can’t Hardly Playboys. At each location, professional dancer Richard Cicchetti and friends will be on hand to entertain and teach guests a dance step or two.
The funds from this event will benefit PSABC’s goal to protect the beauty and prosperity of Asheville and Buncombe County. This work benefits citizens from all corners of this diverse city allowing for sustainable growth. Join us and be part of history!
