Press release from Robert “Bob” Chilmonik for School Board Campaign:

I am announcing my intention to run for Buncombe County School Board representing the Owen District. The citizens of Buncombe county need experienced, results driven representation focused on high quality public education.  My background includes over twenty years’ corporate management experience, supervising a large professional staff and managing a multimillion dollar budget, eight years teaching experience and two elected terms as a School Board member for a 1.4-billion-dollar school district. My first priority is to ensure that tax dollars are directed to the classroom and not too unnecessary operating and administrative costs. Second, teachers are the county’s most important asset; they require a competitive compensation package that rewards performance with bonuses based on student achievement, school grades, educational experience, and school leadership. I believe that every citizen has a right to cost effective public schools, open public records that are easily accessible, and highly ethical behavior by public officials. I will work tirelessly towards these goals.  Many years ago, the citizens of North Carolina gave me an opportunity for a better education and life for my family. I want to repay that debt by serving as your school board member.  Thank you and God bless America.

I will support the following:

  • Safe schools
  • High academic achievement in reading math and science along with expanded career and technical education options.
  • Sound fiscal management accountability that directs money to the classroom and reduces unnecessary spending.
  • Ensure that all students understand and speak the English language starting in the early grades.
  • Develop stronger parent and business partnerships with the school district
  • Full transparency of all board related business
