Safelight announces the return of “Walk A Mile in Our Shoes” in Downtown Hendersonville. Sponsored by Pardee Hospital, this famous awareness and fundraising event will be held Tuesday, September 20, just prior to a comedic performance by Pam Stone at Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown.
Safelight Board of Directors Chair Pat Ashe announced, “This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Walk a Mile brings the community together to promote awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault issues here in Henderson County. Participation by teams and individuals raises money for programs here at Safelight that truly change the lives of our clients.”
“Emergency shelter, court advocacy, counseling, case management and job training are a few of the resources we provide clients who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault or child abuse,” added Safelight Executive Director Tanya Blackford. “Events like this one spark conversation about these preventable crimes and give us the opportunity to talk about the work we are doing with our partners and how community members can get involved.”
Participants in the walk are encouraged to wear someone else’s shoes, typically high heels, while walking the five blocks from Safelight on Fifth Avenue to the Hendersonville Visitor’s Center on Main Street. The walk will be followed by a separate ticketed event at Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown including food and drinks from Dandelion Eatery and an evening of laughter and fun with comedian Pam Stone. Stone is known to many through her hilarious newspaper columns as well as her long-running character Coach Judy Watkins on the popular 90s television hit “Coach.” Tickets to this event are $25 each and are available by calling 828-693-3840.
