Safelight invites public to free screening of ‘What Haunts Us’

Press release from Safelight:

Hendersonville, NC – Safelight invites the community to a free screening of ‘What Haunts Us,’ Tuesday, October 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Henderson County Public Library, 301 N. Washington Street in Hendersonville. This is a timely and powerful film that will open a discussion about the issue of sexual assault awareness and how we as a community can protect our children and be part of the solution. This documentary by Paige Goldberg Tolmach is about the horrific nightmare that happened at her seemingly perfect high school that no one wants to talk about to this day.

Immediately following the screening, we will hear from special guest David Flowers, a strong survivor and advocate for children, who was also one of the attorneys for the survivors in this case. Flowers will give a brief talk about the issues raised by the film and hold a question and answer session for attendees.

“It’s important that as many people as possible in this community see ‘What Haunts Us’ and understand exactly how pervasive this problem is,” Flowers stated. “It’s not just occurring in Charleston, or in larger cities. It’s here and it’s now.”

Safelight Director of Development Laresa Griffin added, “If you struggle with how to show your support for survivors of sexual assault or if you are interested in learning more about the issue and how you can help, this event is for you. We all can play a part in keeping our children safe, helping survivors, and reducing these crimes.”
