Several A-B Tech programs move to main campus after closing of Enka’s Haynes Conference Center

A-B Tech closed one of two buildings at its Enka location on September 19, but the College’s Small Business Center, Business Incubation program, Craft Beverage Institute of the Southeast, and BioNetwork will continue to operate at Enka for the foreseeable future.

Some Workforce and Economic Development and Continuing Education offices and programs were moved from the Haynes Conference Center building at Enka to the main campus in Asheville.

“It has been a smooth transition and we don’t anticipate any disruption with our programs and classes,” said Shelley White, vice president for Economic and Workforce Development and Continuing Education. “We want to be clear that the Small Business Center, Business Incubation program, Craft Beverage Institute, BioNetwork and our partner organizations remain open for business at Enka.”

Effective Monday, A-B Tech’s Continuing Education registration office at Enka has relocated to the Hemlock building on the main campus in Asheville. Students registering in person for Continuing Education classes in Asheville and Buncombe County should enter through the Hemlock building’s main entrance.

Administrative offices for the following Economic and Workforce Development and Continuing Education programs are now in the following locations:
· Workforce Programs (Business & Hospitality, Computers, HRD, Skilled Trades) – Fernihurst building, 2nd Floor
· Economic and Workforce Development (Advanced Manufacturing & Customized Training) – Maple building, 2nd Floor
· Division Administration – Roberson building, 1st Floor

A-B Tech Enka remains open for business with the following programs and services in the Small Business Center/Technology Commercialization Center (SBC/TCC) building:

· Small Business Center (workshops, seminars and counseling) (abtech.edu/sbc)
· Business Incubation (15 business participants representing 42 employees)
· BioNetwork (Natural Products Laboratory, Test Kitchen and seminars)
· Craft Beverage Institute of the Southeast
· Upholstery, Machining Fundamentals, Dance, and many other continuing education courses
· Various local entrepreneurial meet-ups, such as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) program

The following Partner organizations also remain open for business at A-B Tech Enka:
· Blue Ridge Food Ventures
· Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS WNC Training Center)
· NCWorks Apprenticeship Regional office
· Small Business Administration
· The Support Center
· NC Biotechnology Center
