SI Global Academy hosts open house events in Black Mountain Jan. 31, Feb. 5 and Feb. 24

Press release from Supported Immersion Global Academy:

Supported Immersion Global Academy (SIGA), a grade 9-12 boarding and day school opening its doors at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain this August, will host three Open House Events over the next month.

From 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31 and Tuesday, Feb. 5, prospective students and their families can visit the SIGA campus, meet the Head of School and the Director of Enrollment and Outcomes, and learn more about the school’s innovative approach to college prep education. An Open House will also be held on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

SIGA is high school as it should be.

The SIGA model was designed to address shifts in quickly-changing cultural trends and the 21st century skills needed for future success. In order to do this, global citizenship education is woven throughout core disciplines and highlighted during Immersive Experiences, which take place 4-8 weeks per academic year in locations such as Costa Rica, Peru, Austria, South Africa and within the United States.

SIGA’s signature social-emotional learning course guides students through four years of studies in psychology and sociology that encourage understanding of child development, neuroscience, identity development, social dynamics and many other topics related to the science underlying human development and interaction. Also within this course is intentional instruction and processing of digital citizenship, relationship with technology, and the development of a multimedia portfolio showcasing authentic student identity, projects, resume builders, travel, and intentional expression of one’s learning and growth.

SIGA is a small, supportive, co-ed boarding and day school (120 students max) in which faculty work alongside students to create an intellectually rigorous, experientially stimulating, and empowering college-prep environment.

SIGA’s bright and creative students appreciate nontraditional paths in learning and collaborative approaches to life. The academic program incorporates essential guiding questions at both the group and individual level to encourage problem-based learning and curiosity-driven inquiry. Mindfulness activities, goal-planning meetings, outdoor education and exercise, and space for arts, music and social recreation are also incorporated into daily schedules.

SIGA will open its doors in August 2019 on a beautiful, sprawling, 1,200 acre campus at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain.
