Sick Raccoons in Hendersonville

Press release from the City of Hendersonville Police Department:

The Hendersonville Police Department has received numerous calls over the past few days of people calling about sick raccoons in their yard.

According to Wildlife Biologist Justin McVey, it has been confirmed that distemper has moved into Henderson County from Buncombe County. The sick animals will appear drunk, wobbly and even friendly. Wildlife and law enforcement is asking that you do not touch or feed these animals. It is also suggested that your personal pets are up-to-date on all vaccines. If your pet shows symptoms of being sick, please contact a local veterinarian as soon as possible.

If you encounter one of these animals, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
