Smiling Hara Tempeh is teaming up with Miso Master and local fermentor Meredith Leigh to offer a class on cultured foods. The goal, says Smiling Hara co-founder, is “to offer tips for preparing locally cultured foods with success and ease, so that incorporating them into your regular diet is a breeze.”
“We will all present different segments highlighting each of the three featured cultured foods — tempeh, miso and homemade kraut,” explains Smiling Hara co-founder Sarah Yancey, noting that Buchi kombucha will be the cultured beverage on hand for pupils to enjoy.
For Leigh’s portion of the event, she’ll lead the class in preparing a batch of kraut from scratch. The other two segments will feature cultured foods (and other local ingredients) as meal inputs.
Each of the dishes will be prepared and tasted during the class and participants get a goodie bag to take home, including Smiling Hara peanut hempeh and soy tempeh, miso, Crooked Condiments mustard, recipe cards and other promotional items from the companies involved.
The event, held at Jubilee Community Church on Tuesday, May 26, from 6-8 p.m., costs $25 per person. For more information or to register, click here.
