Press release from Evergreen Community Charter School:
On Tuesday, October 4th beginning at 7:00pm, Evergreen Middle School students, in partnership with the Haw Creek Community Association, will lead an Asheville City Council Candidate Forum. It will be held in the gym at Evergreen Community Charter School with council candidates on the stage in front of a live audience, and it will be livestreamed and the recording posted on Evergreen’s YouTube channel. Evergreen and the Haw Creek Community Association recognize that it may be hard for Asheville citizens with young children to come to events like these, so will be offering free childcare. It is important for all citizens, of all ages, to have the opportunity to ask questions of local leaders.
A group of Evergreen’s 7th and 8th graders will introduce and ask questions to all of the candidates running for Asheville City Council this year. Students researched local issues, heard input from community members, and created questions that reflect what’s important to the diverse population of Asheville. This is the only forum where youth in Asheville get to ask questions of their prospective leaders. These middle schoolers bring their unique perspectives to this event. There will also be an opportunity for the audience to submit questions to the candidates.
City Council Candidates:
