Local residents heralded the start of North Carolina’s early-voting period with a rally in downtown Asheville today, Oct. 23.

Oct. 23, 3:30pm on the first day of early voting, The Power of 3 Votes joins “Moral March to the Polls”with many groups, organizations and concerned citizens, meeting at Vance Monument and then following the Hillcrest Marching Band to the [Buncombe County] Board of Elections.What is the Power of 3 Votes?The Power of 3 Votes is a local neighborhood grassroots movement dedicated to turning out the early vote. Political analysts predict this year’s elections may be determined by as few as three votes per precinct. Let’s make every vote count!How does the Power of 3 Votes work?If each person recruits 2 who in turn recruits 2 more to commit to going to the polls together, we hope to increase awareness of the issues and voter turnout, 3 at a time!Can’t go to the March on Oct 23? Musicians for the Power of 3 Votes are uniting to play at several early voting sites! Ignite your club or group – Students, teachers, bicyclists, contra dancers, gardeners, to name just a few – to all go vote together. Choose an early voting location, date and time where a musician will be playing and then celebrate by heading to a favorite club, brewery or restaurant to celebrate!Wed. Oct 29, 5pm-7pm –Asheville’s own Diva, Kat Williams, vocal stylist of Jazz, Blues and Pop, will perform in front of the West Asheville Library. Participating musicians include David Lamotte, Liz Wright, River Guerguerian, Cecil Bothwell, Roger Gold and many more.2014 can be the outstanding year that 80% of our community turn out to vote in a midterm election. “See you at the polls!
