Tops for Shoes awarded Gold Medal Service Award

Asheville footwear icon Tops for Shoes has been honored with Footwear Insight magazine’s 2015 Gold Medal Service Award in recognition of its high quality customer service. The local shoe outlet announced it was among 34 independently owned shoe stores across the country to receive the award in a press release on Monday.

“Tops has always promoted good customer service,” says General Manager Dean Peterson. He adds that having an Asheville business acknowledged for good customer experiences reflects on visitor experiences in the city as a whole.

Tops was among 100 independent shoe stores in the country that were secretly evaluated by mystery shoppers hired by Franklin Retail Solutions, a retail merchandising company based out of Roxbury, Massachusetts.

Footwear outlets were measured in 20 categories by judges, ranging from sales representative demeanor to the provision of clean socks for trying on shoes. Tops for Shoes ranked third nationally in the contest, with a score of 94 out of a possible 100.

“The Gold Medal Service awards define what constitutes great customer service,” says Mark Sullivan, president of Formula4 Media, the founder of the award. Tops owner Alex Carr added that it was “gratifying” to be recognized by the mystery shoppers.

“For us, there’s simply no other way to do business.”
