Tree removal and building demolition for Riverside Park construction

Press release from the town of Woodfin

The Town of Woodfin would like to inform residents of upcoming changes to Riverside Park for preparation of construction planned for the Woodfin Greenway Blueway project.  For the last several years, the Town has been planning for reconstruction and expansion of Riverside Park that will include river access, park pavilions, play and viewing areas and new restrooms. An in-river whitewater feature, known as Taylor’s Wave, is also planned and will provide unique recreation opportunities for kayakers and paddlers of all skill levels. The construction for these amenities is slated to begin in Fall 2023 and the town is beginning to prepare the site for construction mobilization.

The first step in in site preparation is the removal of some trees along with the demolition and removal of an unoccupied building on the site. The trees identified for removal are located along the riverbank, adjacent to Riverside Drive where the whitewater wave feature will be constructed. The trees must be removed before April 15 to avoid the moratorium in place for the endangered grey bat. Removing the trees now will help to keep the project on schedule for other site work to begin this fall.
