Water main break leaves Hendersonville Water and Sewer customers near Sugarloaf Elementary without water

Press release from Hendersonville Water and Sewer:

The water customers of Hendersonville Water and Sewer along Sugarloaf Rd. from Sugarloaf Elementary School to Ridge Rd., including all associated side streets in this area of the County are currently experiencing a low to no pressure condition due to a broken water main located on Sugarloaf Rd. between the Burntshirt Vineyards and Sugarloaf Elementary School. City crews are currently working on this repair and hope to complete the repair before 8:00 pm this evening.

Periods of low to no pressure in this area increases the potential for back siphonage and the introduction of bacteria into this portion of the City’s water distribution system. Hendersonville Water and Sewer staff will be collecting bacteriological samples in the affected area as the system is restored. Therefore, the North Carolina Division of Water Resources advises that when water is restored, water customers Boil All Water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued. When bacteriological sampling has been completed and meets or exceeds federal and state requirements the City will issue a release to rescind this Water System Pressure Advisory. Please stay tuned to WTZQ, WHKP, WGCR, WMYI, WWNC, WLOS-TV, WSPA-TV or WYFF-TV for this press release. We will also post this press release on the City’s website. Just paste this address into your web browser to view. We will issue follow up press release once all testing and sampling is complete.
