WCU’s Mountain Heritage Day festival seeks crafters and artists

Mountain Heritage Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, on the Western Carlina University campus. That’s months away, but it’s not too soon to begin the application process for an arts or crafts vendorship. Applications are available at the festival web site mountainheritageday.com, or by calling WCU’s Mountain Heritage Center: 227-7129. Deadline is Friday, March 30.

According to a press release, “The festival typically attracts more than 20,000 visitors who come to enjoy over 100 fine arts and crafts booths, three stages of live music and dance, Cherokee stickball games and shape-note singing.

“The arts and crafts applicants are judged for quality of workmanship, booth display and design. The festival gives out cash awards to show artists for Best in Show, First Place and Second Place. Last years winners were Preston and Sara Tolbert of Hemlock Pottery – Best in Show, Judy and Virgil Davis of JVC Creations – First Place, and Wesley Angel of Newfound Forge – Second Place.”
