WD: Ashe County commissioners asked to stop water intake

From the Watauga Democrat:

The Ashe County Board of Commissioners on Monday received a resolution seeking to amend a portion of the South Fork New River watershed, which would effectively stop the Boone water intake project.

The commissioners effectively tabled the resolution by not taking any action Monday, although four commissioners — Judy Poe, Gerald Price, William Sands and Gary Roark — said they oppose the project, while Commissioner Larry Rhodes did not comment.

The town of Boone has planned for a new water source for nearly a decade, with a 4 million-gallon-per-day intake proposed for the South Fork New River in Brownwood, near the Watauga and Ashe county border.
