Cynthia Brown, MD has been elected President of the 2012 Association Board of the Western Carolina Medical Society (WCMS). Dr. Brown is a board -certified pediatric specialist with Mission Children’s Hospital. She served as a director-at-large on the Association Board in 2009, was a vice president in 2010 and president elect of the organization in 2011.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Brown lead the medical society in the most challenging of times for our physicians. She in an innovator, and an excellent representative in our legislative and regionalization efforts,” notes Miriam Schwarz, CEO of the WCMS Association.
Other officers of the 2012 WCMS Association Board are Scott Langford, MD, President Elect, a board-certified emergency medicine specialist at Carolina Mountain Emergency Medicine; Joe Aiello, MD,Treasurer, board-certified nephrologist at Mountain Kidney & Hypertension Associates and Gus Vickery, MD, Secretary, a board-certified family practitioner at Vickery Family Medicine.
“Dr. Brown, the officers and the entire Association Board are committed to supporting and advocating for physicians across Western North Carolina. We are happy to expand our Association Board with two WNC representatives, Al Mina, MD from Haywood Surgical Associates and Michael Stalford, MD, from Park Ridge Ear, Nose & Throat,” adds Schwarz.
The Western Carolina Medical Society is the physicians’ voice, advocating for the health of the medical profession, the health of the patient, and the health of the community.
The Buncombe County Medical Society was established in 1885 by area physicians. Since then, the society has carried out its mission of advocacy, creating the high quality of healthcare we now enjoy. Regional expansion of the Medical Society in 2011 was the impetus behind the name change to the Western Carolina Medical Society. An innovator, collaborator and community partner, WCMS is committed to supporting and advocating for physicians across Western North Carolina.
