WNCW personality Joe Kendrick and Moonlight Mile Productions owner Tony Preston are on the road, filming for the third episode of their Southern Songs and Stories documentary series. This latest glimpse at local musicianship features Asheville quartet Tellico.

Kendrick and Preston’s roughly 30-minute work — which they aim to partially fund through their crowdfunding page — will debut during a private screening for supporters (see their Kickstarter rewards for details) at Moonlight Mile on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Here’s a recent filming update from Kendrick:

We’re filming some great scenes for our upcoming Southern Songs and Stories music documentary on Tellico, and would love to get you involved!

Tellico performed at the historic Cowee School in the picturesque Little Tennessee River Valley, near Franklin, NC, and we had a marvelous time meeting fans and the folks from that community. We got some sweet audio and video of their show too, which you’ll be able to see firsthand in the finished episode when we screen it on November 15th.

I got to talk with HBO location manager and film scout Ellen Pfirrmann about her experience with music documentaries and our series. Ellen is a former WNCW host as well, and has helped produce movies The Hunger Games and Jupiter Ascending, and TV series VEEP and Homeland among many others. The podcast of our interview is on our front page here.

We also went to the home of legendary fiddler Arvil Freeman to film one of [Tellico frontwoman] Anya’s weekly lessons, and got to talk with him about how his style of playing is far different than from other parts of North Carolina, about how musicians in days gone by never wanted to teach any young players their technique, and his love for farm-fresh eggs.

There’s still time to reserve your seat at our screening for the episode, where you’ll also be treated to an intimate performance from Tellico. We have many other ways to thank you for helping make the show a reality as well, and you can see those here. Thank you!
