Woodfin aims to curb preventable illnesses through new health fair

Press release:

(ASHEVILLE)- Woodfin Elementary School will host a new community health fair called Leap Into Health on Monday, February 29, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The unique Leap Day event is a collaboration between the school, YMCA and MAHEC School Health. Community members are invited to engage in free, interactive activities appropriate for both adults and children, including a bicycle-safety demonstration, health screenings, and even a YMCA food truck serving complimentary fruits and vegetables.

“Our main concern is that we are seeing students at our school and their families with health related illnesses that are preventable,” explains Laura Cleaveland, BCS School Social Worker. “We see stress related problems as well as problems that can be prevented through diet and exercise. We hope to create a fun, exciting event where families can come and there will be plenty of activities for the adults and the kids where they can learn more about health.”

Spanish translators will be available during the event.
