The Environmental and Conservation Organization’s Green Energy and Sustainability Committee, ECO, will host its next Sustainable Living workshop on Tuesday, June 12th focusing on the building and maintenance of fish ponds. The workshop will look at how to plan the site to build a pond, the available water for a pond, whether it is an embankment pond or a dug pond, the downstream safety aspects of a pond, earthen dam construction and requirements, and the management of the pond. The workshop will also cover the regulatory requirements for ponds as well as environmental considerations.
According to Bob Twomey, a 35 year career employee of the Natural Resources Conservation Service who will run the workshop “Many residents are interested in building fish ponds because of the natural amenity it adds to a yard, in addition to being an excellent source of food for the family. This workshop will show how easy it is to build and maintain a fish pond so long as the time and considerations to doing it right are applied.”
The workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 12th at 6:30 PM at the ECO Conference Room at 121 Third Ave West, Hendersonville. This workshop requires advance registration and there is limited space. There is a registration fee of $15 per person and registration can be done online at www.eco-wnc.org
