2016 Asheville Wine & Food Festival Wine Competition winners

BLIND FORMAT: All judges for the Asheville Wine & Food Festival Wine Competition are trained by the French Broad Vignerons and sample unlabeled wines.

The results are in for 2016 Asheville Wine & Food Festival Wine Competition. For the third year in a row, the number of entries increased more than 20 percent over the previous year’s event. Teams of judges trained by the French Broad Vignerons determined the medalists through a blind tasting format during evaluation sessions held in June.

The results include two double gold, 22 gold, 62 silver and 4 bronze medal wines. Winners who earned gold or silver medals and presented wines that were regionally fermented using regionally sourced fruit received the French Broad Vignerons’ Best of the Appalachians designation. The public can sample the winning wines on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the North Carolina Wine Cellar booth at the Asheville Wine & Food Festival. The wines will also be for sale at that time.
