Buncombe D.A. Ron Moore running for seventh term, no challenger yet

According to the State Board of Elections’ list, Buncombe District Attorney Ron Moore filed to run for a seventh term last Friday, Feb. 21.

As of this morning, Moore’s name still does not appear on the local list of candidates, but Buncombe County Board of Elections staff confirm that it will. So far Moore, a Democrat who has occupied the office for 24 years, has no challengers.

When Moore hadn’t filed by the middle of last week, Xpress contacted his office, asking if he was running for another term. He did not respond. By Friday, the local board of elections did not list Moore on its list of candidates, leaving the race unclear. District Attorney is one of the most powerful local offices and, at the time, the only one where no candidates had filed.

The filing period ends at noon this Friday, Feb. 28.
