Filing begins today, July 5, to run for Asheville City Council and other local positions this year. The deadline for candidates to fill out the paper work at the Buncombe County Department of Election Services is noon, July 19.
Asheville’s mayoral job is up for grabs, as well as three of its seats on city council. In addition, several other municipalities in Buncombe County will hold elections for local officials. Here’s a complete list of all the elections being held in the county this year:
• Asheville Mayor
• Asheville City Council (three seats)
• Black Mountain Mayor
• Black Mountain Alderman (two seats)
• Montreat Mayor
• Montreat Commissioners (three seats)
• Weaverville Mayor
• Weaverville Council (two seats)
• Woodfin Mayor
• Woodfin Aldermen (three seats)
• Woodfin Water and Sewer District (three seats)
The primary election for all of the races is set for October 8, with the general election to be held Nov. 5.
