Michael Muller’s leaving Xpress

Mountain Xpress would like to announce that Michael Muller, who has been with us as a staff reporter covering business and politics for the last six months,  will be leaving us to pursue other projects — most notably a multimedia and book project on Asheville visionary Julian Price. Muller wrote a well-received piece on Price for the Aug. 18 issue of Xpress (”Open for Business: A Passionate Legacy”).

Before his brief stint here, Muller had served as a campaign manager for various local candidates; he has been a key resource in our recent coverage of the 2010 elections. Muller brought a level of expertise in this area that served both the voters and this paper very well.

His talents aren’t limited to just writing and politics: He’s taken scores of wonderful photos over the last few months, as well as produced innovative video interviews, assisted with graphic design for our online and in-print news section, pushed the social-media envelope, and provided a sense of humor that will be greatly missed.

We would like to thank Michael Muller for his many contributions to Xpress, and we look forward to collaborating with him on future endeavors. Stay tuned, for example, for more post-election, Muller reports on campaign financing, voter statistics and other analysis online and in print.

    I think he deserves thanks for what, in my opinion, have been a series of well-written, even-handed and incisive political stories during the past six months.

    Well, since Mr. Price did in fact provide the start up capital for xpress, it should come as no surprise that the story portrayed him as anything less than a saint.
