Rocky’s Chicken Shack is kaput

Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack, an Arden restaurant located at 2603 Hendersonville Rd, has closed. The eatery was practically gaining cult status for its ridiculously spicy, very delicious fried chicken; many local hardcore spice-lovers are sure to be quite disappointed. Owner Rocky Lindsley has left an outgoing message on the restaurant’s voicemail, explaining that he had to close the Shack “due to personal reasons and changes in the lease.”

Lindsley goes on to say that he hopes to open up elsewhere some time in the future, and reminds the faithful to keep their eyes peeled for that. In the meantime, he says, customers and friends may be able to find him playing music at Magnolias, though he doesn’t mention what days. The space that currently housed Rocky’s, by the way, is for rent.

In closing, Lindsley, who sounds somewhat distraught, thanks fans of his restaurant for their support, and reminds them to “keep it spicy.”

I drove into town from Orlando late on Monday. My first stop on Tuesday was Rocky’s. I was only lucky enough to enjoy his chicken once during a visit last fall. I had been waiting 7 months to eat it again but I was a few days too late. Rocky was there when I pulled in, and though obviously distraught, was as friendly and polite as I remembered. All I could do was wish him good luck and wonder how I was going to fill the 5, yes 5, meals that I had Rocky’s planned for on this trip.

Just as well close, I have been there 5 times and only ate chicken twice. The times I didn’t eat he was closed or sold out during the daytime hours. Too far to drive from uptown to find out you couldn’t get any chicken. Although I do wish him well in his music career.

Sad this was a good place that served good food. If this was downtown people would be on here screaming and crying about it but alas it was not so the tragically hip won’t bother to care.
