Promising live music, craft beer and family fun, Twestival Global Asheville happens at Club 828 on Thursday night. Mountain Xpress offers a live webstream of the marathon six-hour charity event.
Twestival, a benefit event founded in Asheville’s vibrant community of Twitter users (Twitter + festival = Twestival) includes a family-friendly section from 5-7 p.m. with free food, non-alcoholic beverages and surprise guests (Did Harry Anderson accept the invitation? We’ll find out). Later entertainment from 7-11 p.m. includes local bands Taylor Martin’s Engine, The Screaming Js and The Enemy Lovers — along with a selection of local craft brews.
A February 2009 Twestival event in Asheville saw uncommon success, raising more than four times the global city average for its beneficiary, charity: water. More recently, last September’s event focused locally as volunteers raised funds and promoted awareness for WNC agriculture, connecting people with locally grown food through the Appalachian Sustainable Agricultural Project.
Twestival events happen twice annually (once for a global charity, once for a local charity) all over the world to raise money and awareness. The beneficiary for tonight’s event is Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organization dedicated to spreading education and ending extreme poverty.
