URTV in Asheville and Buncombe County

In these management agreements, the City of Asheville and Buncombe County lay out the terms of operation for public access channel URTV, including how and by whom URTV services can be used and the obligations of each party.

• This Feb. 9, 2009, letter from Jerry Young, president of the URTV’s Board of Directors, notifies board member Richard Bernier that the board’s executive committee had voted to dismiss him from his post. Click here to read the letter.

• In this July 2009 letter from URTV Executive Director Pat Garlinghouse, URTV producers Don Yelton and Harry Maroni are declared suspended for 30 days over an incident involving a concealed weapon brought into the studios by a guest.

  1. In her non-responsive answer to city council’s ultimatum, Rippon states that the attached confidential letter by Rosenthal is an example of having the goal of “controlling the programming at URTV.”

    In what way is the attached letter an example of that?

    Hunter Goosmann is no longer on the Board. That makes three down, in a less than a month. (Roberts, Brown & Goosmann)
    Another one bites the dust. Or is it rats deserting the ship?

  5. now see here,that is my line,about rats deserting a ship…ones reputation may not fare so well after a prolonged association with pat garlinghouse…
    when i start my new show on urtv,we will get to the bottom of all this stuff..
    free and open speech,that is the only way to go..
    who would like to be on the show with me ???
    you know,i bet i can get some of ashevilles best thinkers…
    i plan to start the show very soon,something like a urtv round table..
    i also have something like 200 hours of music video in the can ready to go..
    you know,i get so much email every day,asking me ,when will i get back on the air..
    well i just do not have the time to respond to all of them,but it will be very soon,and better than ever..

  6. OMG. Heard a rumor that Goosmann was gone…looks like it’s true…he’s not shown on the BOD list.

    OMG ,i just heard that it’s hard to keep the board full of members… why do you think that could be?? is it like that with other boards,or are there problems with urtv?? what do you think the problem could be,and how could it be fixed??is there some big trouble maker at urtv??

    Dale Joyner gave a fabulous performance..
    bravo,bravo,to Dale Joyner…-
    the new york times says,”her best yet. the role of a mad woman will never be the same..Dale Joyner owns the role..”
    while some in attendance,sat in horrified disbelief,as police tried to decide if they would need to take her out,others of us could hardly hold back our applause…she is the queen of urtv..

    Public Access is the Citizen speaking-out,in a form where all you have to do is click or watch.
    It’s a OUT-LET that can showcase the good in our City/County,I think we spent to much time pointing the finger when we all share the same road air food etc.Look for the good in life.
