Who will reach the top?: Best of WNC voting opens

Place your gear, harness up and slip on your voting shoes. You can almost smell the rocky pinnacle; the pride and respect that comes with standing tall above everyone else. The mountain is open!

Voting has begun for the beloved annual Best of WNC awards. You have until  11:59 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 to complete your ballot and make sure your voice is heard.

Whether you are a voracious visitor, a tentative transplant, a lifetime local or anything in between, if you care about this community and the institutions that make it great, this is your chance to make sure your choices are rewarded with mountain-top status. Vote your passion and knowledge on what is the very best. Take your time, vote for what you love, leave the rest, and start your ballot now.

A little different

Mountain Xpress is constantly refining and streamlining the voting process to make it easier to be a part of Best Of. One difference returning voters may notice this year is that all the band and artist categories have been removed from the regular ballot. Not to worry though, these categories haven’t been overlooked, omitted or dropped. Instead, in an effort to give them a bigger spotlight and the attention they deserve, arts, crafts and bands will receive their own polls. Look for these voting ballots to go live this summer.

Even better: The winners of the arts and crafts categories will be featured in a special exhibition curated by the Asheville Area Arts Council in conjunction with American Craft Week (date TBA).

The winners of the band categories will have an opportunity to play a showcase hosted by New Mountain (date TBA).

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.
