Letter: McHenry will continue to serve WNC well

Steven Hawkins

I think Congressman Patrick McHenry is doing an excellent job as U.S. representative in Western North Carolina. Since his first election in 2004, he has continued to be a critical voice for conservative legislation.

He grew up in Gastonia, and he is 42 years old. He … lives in [the Piedmont] with his wife, Giulia.

He is a firm favorite for election 2018. His challengers this year have not been able to raise enough funds to take his office. [He is] vice chairman of the House Financial Services committee. …

People who are challenging him for Congress in the 2018 election include Republicans Seth Blankenship and left-of-center candidates Gina Collias and Ira Roberts.

Congressman Patrick McHenry has been in the U.S. Congress for 14 years. He was a member of the N.C. House of Representatives for one term. He grew up in the suburban part of the city of Gastonia, near Charlotte. He graduated from Belmont Abbey College.

I look forward to his successful campaign for an eighth term for U.S. representative of North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District. I think he has served and will continue to serve the people of Western North Carolina very well.

Xpress prioritizes letters to the editor written by local letter writers about local and regional topics. But we do also accept letters about Asheville and WNC topics from people who live outside of the area.

And…… is it just me or does this read like a fourth grader wrote this???? MtnX at its very best apparently. Whew.

    Yeah, maybe don’t do this.

McHenry (unlike Meadows) has risen up the ranks in the House GOP. He’s less rabid than he was when first elected. He obviously hates that his district was gerrymandered to make the 11th more GOP-friendly and thus requires occasional visits to Swannanoa. (Never within the city limits, even though his district includes east Asheville.) He’ll win his primary in a canter and be re-elected on the vote in Gastonia and Rutherfordton and Forest City, and whichever Democrat runs against him will get 60%+ of the vote in Buncombe County.

There’s no point in talking about congressional races in WNC until the state legislature is forced to produce a map that isn’t an ongoing insult to everywhere west of Charlotte.

What’s with the selfie? McHenry is a stooge for the current administration and the NRA, always opposing common sense legislation. He’s basically the biggest croc in the swamp.
