Chad Nesbitt, chair of the Buncombe County Republican party, sure picked an interesting place to hold his fundraiser on Sept. 11.
While rallying against “socialistic terrorism,” his fundraiser was held at a publicly funded and owned facility that provides the service of fighting fires in the community. It is our taxes that pay for those facilities and services, and they are to benefit everyone in the community. It is a socialist operation, as are the emergency medical services that the fire department provides.
I bet the rappellers would have used them, if they had been injured or became sick. I bet they even drove on government-run, taxpayer-funded socialist roads to get to their event.
The irony of picking that spot to condemn socialism is interesting. Maybe next time they could use a public library, public park, public school or public recreation center to hold their anti-socialism rally. Or maybe their senior members could bring their Medicare cards and Social Security checks to burn at the rally, to show their dislike for socialist government-run programs.
It is great that they also raised money for a nonprofit, but I would advise the children who benefit from “Hunt for the Cure” to stick to fishing trips, rather than hunting trips. It seems to me that these folks could easily shoot themselves in the foot.

“It is great that they also raised money for a nonprofit…”
Actually, the nonprofit didn’t receive squat. The total collected was reportedly only $310 dollars, and the nonprofit in question disavowed any connection and has received nada.
