I am so glad to hear that Old Europe is back; I truly missed it. It has always been my favorite little place to go have coffee and eat a delicious pastry and hang out with friends. I am excited the coffee shop back. That it now being run by an independent lady inspires me even more.
We should always look out for the small businesses. After all, our world has become an environment of large corporate businesses that devour the small. It is really a shame.
Melinda is great and always provides an awesome service with a precious smile.

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.
We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
The “new” Old Europe is a treat and an improvement on both the previous incarnations. The full-scale restaurant was a disappointment, and the “old” Old Europe, while full of charm and delicious pastries with eye-popping appeal, had some counter personnel who weren’t always the epitome of warmth and welcome. The new counter servers are as gracious as the confections they serve.
