A candidate who listens

I’m writing to second Ann Craig’s endorsement of Cecil Bothwell for Asheville City Council [“It’s Never Too Early,” March 11].

Bothwell understands the issues we will be seeing in the near future—issues relating to peak oil and global climate change and what will be required in order to create a sustainable economy in the coming years.

He is also the only candidate who has addressed a core issue about the I-26 connector that I have been telling people about, which is: The so-called alternative 4b is not the [actual] Asheville Design Center plan. I have consistently been sending out messages about this to people, but it seems that even the ADC committee has been telling people to support 4b, assuming that it can be adjusted later to be more in line with the Design Center criteria.

As this proposed project moves forward, we’ll need strong leaders like Bothwell on Council to stand up for Asheville’s best interests, to listen to the people instead of moneyed special interests, and to protect our neighborhoods from misguided DOT plans.

Please support Cecil Bothwell for City Council.
