Basilica’s big idea makes good sense

Kudos to parishioner Matt Mores for the hotel plan on the city-owned property across from the Basilica. It makes a great deal of sense. I hope something like it actually gets built.

Good luck to the Basilica, the McKibbon Group and the city.

That’s all we need in Asheville. Another “boutique” hotel downtown. There are already 3 in the works. Our 2 current hotels downtown, the Renaissance and the Sheraton, do not fill to capacity. Just drive by and look at how many cars are in the parking lots. Then drive through the tunnel, and see lots more hotels, none of which are at capacity.

Methinks the idea of building up in Asheville is wrong for the town, and a bad investment. If y’all haven’t noticed, we are in a recession bordering on a depression. It will be a while before people will have the money to spend on a fancy hotel room on a trip to Asheville. Especially if Obama remains in office. He plans on confiscating all that disposable income from the “idle rich”.

I’d like to see a singlewide trailer put up in that empty parking lot to remind us all that not everyone in Asheville is a flush yuppie retiree from the yankee NE, or Florida.

Just give us directions to your place and they can see one with “weathered local character”.
