Thank you so much for your Voter Guides each election; they really are helpful. This year I was eager to see what our local officials had to say about the gas shortage, and apparently so were you! However, I was extremely disappointed with how shortsighted so many of the answers were. Of all the commissioners who answered the question, only one, Nathan Ramsey, suggested that we improve public transit.
We cannot drill our way out of this problem, and political pressure only goes so far. Our local governments need to be focused on how to make the county easier to get around in via public transit, and how to make Asheville more bike- and pedestrian-friendly. Didn’t anyone notice how many more bike riders there were on the roads when gas was gone? People want options! Leaders, listen up!
