Some last thoughts of Kurt

I was sad to hear Kurt Vonnegut [had passed] a couple of weeks ago, but as they say: So it goes. I know some people thought his books depressing and crazy, but isn’t life?  Here are a [couple of] quotes from Kurt:

“Here’s what I think the truth is: We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial, about to face cold turkey. And like so many addicts about to face cold turkey, our leaders are now committing violent crimes to get what little is left of what we’re hooked on.”

“1492. As children we were taught to memorize this year with pride and joy as the year people began living full and imaginative lives on the continent of North America. Actually, people had been living full and imaginative lives on the continent of North America for hundreds of years before that. 1492 was simply the year sea pirates began to rob, cheat, and kill them.”

He had such a good way of making the truth funny. I will miss his wit and humor.

    Just thought I’d add a couple more quotes:

    One helluva writer. His books could be a bit depressing, but nothing crazy to them – some times a dose of reality just sucks.

    But he dressed them all in enough humor to really make you think about the subject rather than the preaching… and still the preaching seemed to find a good note to it.

    I’d look up a few quotes as well, but it’s late. Can’t quite decide if Blackbeard… Galapagos… Deadeye Dick is my favorite.

    Hope he’s off to a better… or atleast what he’d been expecting.
