I enjoyed reading your eco-wedding issue (Feb. 27). I appreciate Mountain Xpress featuring the growing trend of environmentally sensitive weddings. In your article “Green is Gold,” however, I was surprised and disappointed that [no local sources] were mentioned for eco-friendly flowers. I got all my wedding flowers at Earth Fare and was delighted with them.
Their selection is gorgeous and diverse. The roses are Florverde-certified, which means they adhere to high social and environmental standards (www.florverde.org). Amazingly, the prices are also much less than roses that are grown with no attention to workers’ health, fair wages or environmental sustainability. Topped with the very friendly service, today’s bride can enjoy the sweet fragrance of her flowers without the sour smell of injustice in her hands.

Editor’s note: Although the article mentioned was not a retailer guide, in keeping with the writer’s own experience, we suggest checking locally for fair-trade flowers.
