Eclectic new collections from three Asheville-based stalwarts enrich the local music scene.
The eclectic, Asheville-based instrumental band’s first record in three years combines elements of electronic music, ska and bluegrass.
“One thing we really try to do is honor the fundamentals that are so important to old-time and bluegrass music: the timing, the tones, the hard-driving rhythms,” says Stickley. Despite the adventurousness of the trio’s arrangements, Stickley says that he still often feels the he’s “playing music that could be done around the campfire with a couple of other people who know the songs.”
The Travelin’ McCourys’ perform, as part of the Bluegrass Ball with Andy Thorn, Travis Book and Jon Stickley, at Isis Restaurant & Music Hall on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 15 and 16.
