Disability Pride Month is celebrated with an art show in West Asheville. Plus, Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance turns 20; a parade of lake monsters in Black Mountain; and more.
The premiere of the performance, based on the tempestuous relationship between the Fitzgeralds — the sometimes-Asheville-based writer and artist couple who, in many ways personified the jazz age — features the Terpsicorps company dancers joined by the Firecracker Jazz Band.
The full evening of dance takes place at The Academy at Terpsicorps on Friday, July 21, and Saturday, July 22.
Each week, Xpress highlights notable WNC crowdsourcing initiatives that may inspire readers to become new faces in the crowd. This week features a local artist’s mask-making residency in Mexico, a new dance school called Terpsicorps, a foam party to follow the cyclocross nationals in Asheville in 2016 and upgrades to an astrology podcast.
Talented teen-aged dancers take the stage in Muses of Terpsicorps, Stars of Tomorrow, a debut performance by Terpsicorps and Center Stage’s junior dance company. The concert of classical and contemporary ballet will be performed at Diana Wortham Theatre on Sunday, May 16.
