AC-T: 10-year-old faces theft, arson charges

A 10-year-old faces 13 felony charges in connection with a string of motor vehicle break-ins and fires, Asheville Fire Department spokeswoman Kelley Klope told the Asheville Citizen-Times Monday.

The child was charged with eight counts of breaking and entering motor vehicles, four counts of burning personal property and first-degree arson for the burning of an occupied building, Klope said.

Emergency crews responded about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to a mobile home park on Monty Street, where a fire was set inside a vehicle, spread to another vehicle in front of it, then ignited a nearby home, Klope said. The residence had mostly exterior damage, arson investigator Breena Williams said.
