APD investigating fatal collision

From the Asheville Police Department:

Asheville – The Asheville Police Department responded to a two vehicle collision on October 18, 2013 at approximately 2:20PM on Homeway Rd. in West Asheville. A 1998 Nissan Pick-up operated by 48 year old Phyllis Roberts Sheppard of Asheville was traveling northwest on Homeway Rd. A moped operated by 18 year old Eric Arron House of Asheville was traveling southeast on Homeway Rd.

The moped left it’s lane of travel and struck the Nissan head-on causing the driver and the 16 year old female passenger to be ejected. Mr. House and his passenger were transported to Mission Hospital where Mr. House passed away. The passenger is being treated for very serious injuries. Ms. Sheppard was not injured. No charges have been filed.

Additional information may be released when it becomes available. The number for patient conditions at Mission Hospital is 775-1482.
