ECO, the Environmental and Conservation Organization, is continuing to connect local permaculture and homegrown food experts and community members through its spring Sustainable Living Workshops in April, May, and June. All workshops require advanced registration by calling ECO at (828) 692-0385 or registering online at eco-wnc.org. Classes are $15 per person.On Saturday, April 26, participants can learn about growing edibles in a self-sustaining closed loop aquaponics system with Cliff Jagger of Asheville Aquaponics. The workshop will be taught at Asheville Aquaponics, 4021 Haywood Road Mills River, NC 28759 from 3:00—4:30pm. Registrants will learn how aquaponics design allows waste from fish to fertilize tiered plants, which are purified by gravel and running water. A beautiful and functioning aquaponics display, installed by Cliff Jagger, can be seen in the window of the lobby at Biz611 on North Church Street.On Saturday, May 17 from 10am-12:30pm, local permaculture designer Chuck Marsh will provide an open consultation on transforming a conventional Hendersonville yard into an abundant and thriving edible, energy and water conserving home landscape. This class will take place rain or shine. An on-site location will be given out upon registration.
On Saturday, June 14, local wild edibles and sustainable living expert Michele Skeele will take participants on a wild plant walk in Hendersonville. She will help community members learn wild edibles identification in a natural setting. An on-site location will be given out upon registration.Call ECO for questions at (828) 692-0385.
