Girls on the Run of WNC opens interest sign up for spring 2016 to grow program

Press release from Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina:

In an effort to accommodate more girls into its life-enhancing program, Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina (GOTRWNC) is inviting parents to complete a new Spring 2016 Program Interest Form. The form can be found here.

According to GOTRWNC’s Executive Director, Amy Renigar, “Interest in our program has increased each year and parents are eager to have their daughters participating. Our goal is to make Girls on the Run accessible to all girls, and we think this new strategy will help us reach that goal.” By having parents complete the interest form, GOTRWNC will be able to identify potential schools, sites and volunteers needed to host the program next spring.

Girls on the Run is a non-profit physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grades. The GOTR curriculum includes 20 lessons that address all aspects of a girl’s development including self-esteem and self-expression, healthy lifestyle habits, setting goals, teamwork and communication skills.

Girl registration for Spring 2016 will be February 22nd through March 4th, with the exception of sites that are on a balanced/flex school year calendar or those choosing to start early due to teacher workdays/school closings. Those sites will begin registration and lessons on special timelines, so please check the locations page on the GOTRWNC website for further details.

Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina is a council of GOTR International. Our mission is to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.” Our Presenting Sponsors include Park Ridge Hospital and Asheville Children’s Medical Center. GOTR is offered every fall and spring in 14 counties across WNC. For more information on starting a program or volunteer opportunities, contact Amy Renigar at 828-713-4290 or visit www.gotrwnc.org.
