Green Drinks marks 400th program March 14

Full announcement from Asheville Green Drinks:

Asheville, NC – For five years, Asheville has hosted the hardest working environmental networking cocktail hour in the world. Created in 2006 by Joseph Malki and Ty Hallock, Asheville Green Drinks has hosted hundreds of organizations, nonprofits and community members and has provided a venue for discussions on relevant environmental issues. On Wednesday, March 14th, the public is invited to the Anniversary Celebration which will mark the 400th program since its inception. The event is free and will feature discussions with other Green Drinks’ programs worldwide, opportunities to become active in the community and even “green” drinks!

Socializing will begin at 5:30pm at Posana Café in downtown, Asheville, with programming beginning at 6:00pm.

Originally created in London, England the Green Drinks movement has spread all over the world, providing opportunities for people who are interested in environmental issues and topics meet up for a drink and occasionally listen to an expert in environment, ecology, and/or social justice. The Green Drinks phenomenon features 738 different international cities hosting events featuring conversation, networking and education.

Asheville Green Drinks’ hallmark has been that instead of hosting an event once a month like most cities, it hosts an event every week, typically with a speaker (excepting holidays and snow weather). Asheville Green Drinks formation was largely inspired by the work of Ulla Reeves and her management of EnviroBeer Night which was essentially for enviro-activists around town to connect, socialize, and relax and is lucky to be supported by a wide variety of community members with a range of ideological backgrounds who share a common commitment to ecological stewardship and humanist interests.
