Local Events in Support of the UN Climate Talks in Paris

World leaders will gather in Paris for the UN Climate Talks, November 30 – December 11.  Show your support for an agreement that will reduce use of fossil fuels and limit global temperature increase by attending these events:

Light Up the Night: A Vigil for the Paris Climate Talks

When: Sunday, November 29, 5:00 PM

Where: Grove Park on Charlotte Street (across from St. Mary’s Episcopal Church)

Description: Come as we unite our hearts and longings for a good outcome for the Global Climate Talks in Paris, amplifying the message, “Turn off fossil fuels and turn on a just transition to 100% renewables!” Join the Green Grannies and friends in singing, “DO IT NOW!” as we hold candles and send our wishes to Paris in solidarity with events all over the world!

People’s Pilgrimage for the Paris Climate Talks

When: Sunday, December 6, 2:00 PM

Where: Meet at the pavilion at Carrier Park on Amboy Road

Description: People of all faiths and persuasions are invited to show their support for an agreement that will effectively fight climate change at the UN Climate Talks in Paris, November 30 – December 11.  The “People’s Pilgrimage for the Paris Climate Talks” will demonstrate that support on December 6 at 2:00 p.m. with banners and signs, voices and feet. Supporters will meet at the pavilion at Carrier Park on Amboy Road and walk two miles along the French Broad River to French Broad Park.  Along the way, supporters will stop at the river, a wetland, a contaminated parcel that is being reclaimed, and an electric power substation to hear about the sites and to share in music, poetry and prayer. This event is sponsored by the Creation Care Alliance of Western North Carolina.

Bring banners and signs. Come at 1:00 PM to make signs. Some materials will be provided.
