At the YMCA of Western North Carolina annual meeting Thursday night Representative Brian Turner (D) Buncombe was presented with the NC Alliance of YMCA’s Mission Forward Legislator Award. The Mission Forward award is presented to the legislator who through public policy has advanced the YMCA’s mission and cause. Rep. Turner along with fellow Mission Forward awardee Rep. Josh Dobson (R) – McDowell came together in a bipartisan effort to pass legislation to improve access and efficiencies in track out programs by eliminating unnecessary regulations and to improve nutrition standards in after-school programs through the creation of the Healthy Out of School (HOST) recognition program.
Rep. Turner said “I am honored to receive this award, and I am proud that through bipartisanship we were able to help the YMCA and other after-school program providers”
