Third annual Asheville Run for Boston returns, April 20

From a press release:

What began as the Asheville running community coming together following the April 15, 2013, Boston Marathon bombings is becoming an annual tradition. On April 23, 2013, over 100 local runners came out to support the OneFund Boston and Be Strong, Stay Strong foundations, raising over $2,000.00, and being thankful to take that run! In 2014, the Foot Rx Nation took the run as its own and had a crowd of 125+ runners strong at Thirsty Monk Biltmore Park, and donated over $1,000.00 raised to OneFund Boston. Again this year, the Third Annual Asheville Run for Boston returns, sponsored by The Run828 Foundation and the Four Seasons Running Club, in conjunction with Foot Rx and Thirsty Monk Biltmore Park.

This year’s charity run will be held on Patriot’s Day, Monday, April 20th, to coincide with the 119th running of the Boston Marathon. Beginning at the Biltmore Park Pool (1067 Columbine Drive, Asheville), the charity fun run will follow a 2.62 mile route on the sidewalks through the neighborhood. Following the run, participants are encouraged to join the post-run party at Thirsty Monk, 2 Town Square Blvd., Suite 170 for food and brews!

The run this year is more focused on involving the entire community, including families, and runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to join in! Participants are invited to wear a bib from an old race and to dress up in your favorite blue and yellow attire! The charities the run will benefit include the Be Strong, Stay Strong foundation (www.bestrongstaystrong.net) supporting Charlotte residents who were injured in the bombings and The Run828 Foundation (www.footrxasheville.com/run828-foundation/), a local non-profit with the goal of building a community track in the South Buncombe/North Henderson area.

Registration will begin on the 20th at 5:30 p.m. at the pool house, with a $5 suggested donation. The fun run will begin at 6:30 p.m., and will have course volunteers along the entire route. A giveaway will feature goods and services from local merchants and businesses for $1 an entry/$5 for 6. As of press time, local businesses committed to their support of the Third Annual Asheville Run for Boston include: Thirsty Monk, Biltmore Park Homeowners’ Association, Charlotte Street Computers, Flat Rock Bakery, Carolinas Cinemas, Twin Leaf Brewery, Go Run Trails, Run Bum Tours, New Beginnings Fitness, and Teague, Campbell, Dennis & Gorham, LLP. Questions and offers for donations should be directed to Run828Boston@gmail.com.
