Taste the creations of a new generation of Asheville chefs.

The students in the Kids at Work! Ppogram have been honing their kitchen skills for many weeks, and now, they're ready to show off what they've learned. The nonprofit is holding a benefit dinner at Chef Mo's Restaurant and Bar on Thursday, April 4.

With the guidance of chef Mauricio Abreu, the students, ages 12 to 17, will prepare a five-course meal for diners to enjoy. They'll also work the front of the house.

Kids at Work! has mentored Buncombe County teens for the past 2 ½ years. A group of chefs and counselors guides the students and encourages them to develop marketable kitchen skills and communication techniques. “They'll get a real feel for what it's like to be in the kitchen for a very well-known and great restaurant,” says Gregory Paninski, program coordinator. “It gives the students so much pride to be able to see somebody enjoying their meal that they prepared.”

Tickets for the benefit cost $100 per person. Buy tickets online through Brown Paper Tickets at Kids at Work! asks that diners sign up by Monday, April 1. The evening also includes an auction of paintings by Jonas Gerard.
